Your Internet experience is ruined when the net speed is too slow — it takes so long to open a web page and the reality shows you’re watching stops every few minutes. That can be very annoying.
But it could be a thing of the past. On June 3, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that China’s major telecom carriers(电信公司) would start to provide 5G services.
1 What is 5G?
The “G” in “5G” refers to the generation of mobile network technologies. 1G let us talk to each other, 2G let us send messages, 3G gave us mobile data and the Internet, and 4G made all of these things faster.
Now 5G promises much faster data download and upload speeds, and more stable connections. This means that you will be able to download an entire HD movie in seconds and only experience a short delay(延迟) between sending and receiving data.
2 What changes will 5G bring us?
With a 5G network, the short delay in information exchange will allow driverless cars to run more safely. Meanwhile, 5G-enabled wearable devices(设备) will be of great use in hospitals. Besides, VR games will become more popular with 5G. The short delay of 5G will make the games feel even more real.
3What are the disadvantages of 5G?
According to the BBC, __________, it will not be perfect.
For one thing, 5G will not“travel” far. On 4G networks, you can be 10 kilometers away from the nearest transmission base and hardly lose signal(信号). But 5G will only cover about 300 meters. And in order to use 5G, we will have to buy new products especially designed for 5G that are expensive at present. All in all, there is still much to be done before 5G’s popularization.
1.“G” in “5G” refers to ___________.

A.because it is quite expensive to get 5G products
B.5G has its own advantages and disadvantages
C.until hundreds of millions of Internet users use 5G
D.though 5G will make our lives more convenient
3.Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?
A.2G let users send messages through phones. B.3G gave us mobile data and the Internet.
C.4G will make VR games more real and popular. D.5G will be used in the medical field.
4.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.An introduction of 5G. B.Changes 5G brings us.
C.The progress of technology. D.Disadvantages of 5G.
“Promise me I’ll die in my own bed and I won’t die alone.”
There it was. Almost three years ago Dad asked me to make those promises. I said yes. And yet, I broke both. I gazed at my two-year-old son. Today is his birthday.
“Promise me...” The voice came from the grave(坟墓). Or was it simply my own guilt(内疚) ridden imagination? Whichever, I wished it would leave me alone and let me enjoy my son’s birthday.
Over two years ago, I broke my first promise. But what else could I have done? The battle(战斗) against his cancer was lost. All that was left was to keep him comfortable and manage his pain. My sisters and I decided his remaining days would be in a hospital. Determined to keep the other promise, I made sure he was never alone. And then came that day.
It was early morning. I was alone with Dad, waiting for my sisters to come and spare me. I heard my dad’s breath, his only voice for over a week, when my phone rang. The baby was coming. A nurse directed me to see my wife, two floors up. Yes, everything was fine. “Shall I show you to the family waiting room?” I refused, thanking the nurse as I headed down the stairs. But too late. I broke my second promise. Dad had died alone. Joy, guilt. My son and my broken promise.
The voice came again. I cried, head buried in my hands. I felt two little but strong hands, pulling my own hands away from my face. “Grandpapa!” My son shouted while leading me into the living room and pointed to a drawer in the desk. I opened the drawer and took out the picture—my dad’s.
How had he known about that photo? How did he know it was his grandfather? I had never taken it out of the drawer since shortly after my dad’s death. A new life entering the world exactly the moment an old one leaves. Could these two lives have somehow passed each other, maybe even knew each other? Perhaps Dad didn’t die alone after all.
