Northern Europe is known for its natural phenomenon (现象) — the Northern Lights. If you want to see them, you need to visit in winter. Southern Europe is made up of all the countries close to Mediterranean and it’s known for its natural wonders and ancient history. Western Europe is the most popular part of Europe. It has lots of famous spots, like the Eiffel Tower and the Van Gogh Museum.
If you’re backpacking (背包旅行) through Europe, the best time to travel is from November to March, when you’ll find cheap tickets for planes and hotels. However, if you’re planning a ski vacation, you’ll find large crowds of travelers. The busiest time of a year for Europe is summer. From June to August, travelers from all over the world go to this place to enjoy the good weather.

Once there was an old woman. She lived in a shoe with her children. They all looked after each other.
The family didn’t always live in a shoe. They had a house before living in the shoe. One day, a giant ( 巨人) came, broke it into pieces and took the father to his castle ( 城堡). The woman’s family were sad. Then the youngest son found the giant’s huge shoe. He suggested staying in it until their father came back, but the father never did.
Finally, the eldest son decided to go to the giant’s castle. At the castle, he found his father in a cage in a large room. However, a dragon was sleeping there. He killed the dragon and then saved his father out of the cage.
Back at the shoe, the old woman thought her son was in trouble. A witch ( 女 巫 ) offered to help. She did something to make the giant’s feet painful. Now, the giant wanted his old comfortable shoes. He went to look for them and found the woman’s shoe home. It was his!
Just then, the eldest son came back with his father. They killed the giant. The family built a new house and lived happily together.

I am Cindy White. I give more than fifty talks to schools in my country, the USA, every year. This is my first talk at a school in China. I know the life in middle school isn’t always perfect. I had all kinds of problems at your age. The biggest one was that I didn’t know how to get on well with my classmate Marie from Canada.
We liked being with each other, but we often had different opinions ( 观 点 ). Do you know how we solved the problems and became best friends? Do you have such problems?
