Last Saturday, I went to the beach with ...

Last Saturday, I went to the beach with my family. We had a good time there. I found a starfish (海星)on the beach. It was white and very beautiful. After getting home the next day, I wanted to learn about starfish. So I began to read about starfish on the Internet.

Of course, starfish aren’t really stars. They just look like stars. They live in the sea, but they aren’t fish. There are about 1,800 different kinds of starfish living in the sea all over the world. Starfish don’t live in fresh water (淡水). Hundreds of starfish are of different colors. The most common starfish are red, orange or yellow.

Starfish can take care of themselves when they are young. Young starfish know what to eat. Starfish can’t swim. They move by using their arms and tube feet(管足). A starfish has no head. A common starfish has five arms. In fact, not all starfish have five arms. Some have many more. If an arm falls off, it grows right back.

Because of all these things, the starfish is my favorite animal now. I think it’s interesting and fun, so I like it best.

Stephen Hawking was born on 8 January 1942 in Oxford and died on March 14, 2018, at the age of 76. His children said: “We are deeply saddened that our dear father passed away today. 65. 我们一直以他为傲。

The British physicist was known for his groundbreaking (开创性的) work with black holes and relativity (相对论), and was the writer of the science books —  A Brief History of Time, which became one of the world’s best-selling books. 66. He was a great scientist who spent most of his time in science study.

Besides his work in science, he also faced the difficulties in his life bravely. At the age of 21, his illness left him wheelchair-bound paralyzed (瘫痪). 67. The doctor said he only had 2 years to live. Then he was able to move only a few fingers on one hand and was completely dependent on others or on technology for everything —  bathing, dressing, eating, even speech.

However, as we all know, he became one of the greatest minds in the world. “I felt it was very unfair at first. Whey should this happen to me?” he wrote in his 2013 Memoir (回忆录). “At the time, I thought my life was over. 68. But now, 50 years later, I am quite satisfied with my life.”

Hawking may no longer be with us, but his spirit “courage and persistence” will continue to inspire (激励) us for years. 69. 他的经历告诉我们掌控自己命运的重要性。

As he once said, “However bad life may seem, there is always something you can do. Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. People who are looking up at the stars become the stars.”

It’s early in the morning and the alarm clock has already rung several time. You have to pull yourself out of bed and rush to school because you’re afraid of being late for school.

As a school student, this is probably a common experience for you. But thanks to new rules, students in Zhejiang and Heilongjiang provinces can now stay in bed longer than before.

On Feb 23, the Zhejiang Department of Education announced (宣布) a new rule that asks primary schools to start school later. According to the rule, start times could be different among different grades, with students in Grade 1 and 2 starting no earlier than 8:30 am.

A similar guideline (指导方针) was announced by the education department in Heilongjiang Province on Feb 24. Students from all primary and junior high schools in the province have been required (要求) to arrive at school no earlier than 8 am.

According to a 2016 study by the Zhejiang Department of Education, half students in Grade 4 slept nine hours or more a night, while the enough sleep time for primary students in 10 hours.

“I welcome the new rule so much. It is such a wonderful rule that gives my son enough time for breakfast, which is necessary for his health and growth”, a mother named Xu Li said. She is from Hangzhou and his son is in Grade 1. These changes have received much praise as they make students get enough sleep and enough time for breakfast.

Pushing back school times isn’t unique (唯一的) to China. In the United States, schools in at least 21 states began to start school later in 2017, as studies have shown that later school start times could be good for students’ development.
