When my college life begins, I feel it is quite different from senior high school life.

Above all, there are various activities on the campus(校园). They arouse our enthusiasm and we all like to take part in them, from which we benefit much.

Besides, we have to learn how to look after ourselves. When I was in high school, I lived with my parents and they took perfect care of me. But now, I'm in a new place. If I still depend on others, I would never adapt myself to the new surroundings. So college life makes me mature.

In senior high school, teachers would drive me to study if I didn't work hard. But now, it seems to be another story--study becomes my own business(actually it should always be). More often than not, I'm in the classroom studying on my own. So I can say it is college life that lets me know how to study.

1.Why do we like to take parts in the activities on the campus?

A. There are many activities.

B. There are few activities.

C. We were forced to take parts in them.

D. They arouse our enthusiasm and we benefit much from them.

2.Why did the author said that the college life makes him mature?

A. He has to learn to look after himself.

B. He can live with his parents.

C. He can still depend on others.

D. He would never adapt himself to the new surroundings.

3.Which of the following is NOT true?

A. College life is quite different from senior high school life.

B. There are a lot of activities on the campus.

C. Teachers don't care about the students' study at all.

D. College life makes one mature.

Fifteen years ago, I took a summer vacation in Lecce in southern Italy. After climbing up a hill for a panoramic(全景的) view of the blue sea, white buildings and green olive trees, I paused to catch my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.

Unfortunately, just as I took out my camera, a woman approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of my view. Like me, this woman was here to stop, sigh and appreciate the view.

Patient as I was, after about 15 minutes, my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the shot I would eventually take, I grew frustrated. Was it too much to ask her to move so I could take just one picture of the landscape? Sure, I could have asked her, but something prevented me from doing so. She seemed so content in her observation. I didn’t want to mess with that.

Another 15 minutes passed and I grew bored. The woman was still there. I decided to take the photo anyway. And now when I look at it, I think her presence in the photo is what makes the image interesting. The landscape, beautiful on its own, somehow comes to life and breathes because this woman is engaging with it. zxx|k

This photo, with the unique beauty that unfolded before me and that woman who “ruined” it, now hangs on a wall in my bedroom. What would she think if she knew that her figure is captured(捕捉) and frozen on some stranger’s bedroom wall? A bedroom, after all, is a very private space, in which some woman I don’t even know has been immortalized(使……永存). In some ways, she lives in my house.

Perhaps we all live in each others’ spaces. Perhaps this is what photos are for: to remind us that we all appreciate beauty, that we all share a common desire for pleasure, for connection, for something that is greater than us.

That photo is a reminder, a captured moment, an unspoken conversation between two women, separated only by a thin square of glass.

1.What happened when the author was about to take a photo?

A. Her camera stopped working.

B. A woman blocked her view.

C. Someone asked her to leave.

D. A friend approached from behind.

2.According to the author, the woman was probably_______.

A. enjoying herself

B. losing her patience

C. waiting for the sunset

D. thinking about her past

3.In the author’s opinion, what makes the photo so alive?

A. The rich color of the landscape.

B. The perfect positioning of the camera.

C. The woman’s existence in the photo.

D. The soft sunlight that summer day.

4.The photo on the bedroom wall enables the author to better understand ________.

A. the need to be close to nature

B. the importance of private space

C. the joy of the vacation in Italy

D. the shared passion for beauty

5.The passage can be seen as the author’s reflections upon _______.

A. a particular life experience

B. the pleasure of traveling

C. the art of photography

D. a lost friendship

At times my mom has been uncomfortable seeing these qualities in me. For example, when I was 12,I went to Puerto Rico all by myself to stay with my grandmother for the summer. My mom was extremely nervous about it. She kept telling me how things were different in Puerto Rico(波多黎各),to always put on sunscreen(防晒霜),not to wander away from my grandmother, and other warnings. She helped me pack and did not leave the airport until she saw my plane take off.

But despite(尽管)her worries, she let me go on my own. As I moved into my teens, she continued to give me space to grow and learn, even when it might have been difficult for her. When I reached my senior year,I decided to move away for college. Once again I found that I differed from my peers(同龄人):While many of them wanted to stay close to home,I couldn’t wait to be out in the world on my own. While my mom may not have been happy at the thought of my going away, she was supportive and excited for me.

One big thing I realized during my senior year,as my mom granted(允许) me more freedom, was that she actually believes in me and trusts me. That means a lot. Most of my life, and especially when I was little, the main person I tried to impress in my schoolwork or other things was my mother. I knew she expected nothing but the best from me. Sometimes it was hard to live up to her standards: getting a single B on my report card would make me feel bad because I knew she wanted me to have all A’s.

I know that her high standards have helped me stay focused on what’s important, like education, and made me who I am. I am thankful for her support and involvement in my life. Most of all I respect her. She is the strongest woman I know and that’s why I have turned out so strong and independent.

1.When the author decided to go to Puerto Rico, his mother________.

A. didn’t allow him to do so

B. wanted to go with him

C. worried about his safety

D. asked his grandmother for advice

2.Why did the author decide to move away for college?

A. He wanted to be different from his peers.

B. He planned to keep away from his mother.

C. He intended to make his mother unhappy.

D. He wanted to be independent

3.We can learn from Paragraph 3 that the author’s mother________.

A. had a high expectation of him

B. cared little about his learning

C. used to expect nothing from him

D. was too strict with him

4.What does the author mainly want to tell us in the text?

A. His mother’s deep love for him

B. The importance of his mother’s trust and support

C. His long way to become independent

D. His good relationship with his mother

Think about the different ways that people use the wind. You can use it to fly a kite or to sail a boat. Wind is one of our cleanest and richest power sources, as well as one of the oldest. Something shows that windmills (风车) began to be used in ancient Iran back in the seventh century BC. They were first introduced to Europe during the 1100s, when armies returned from the Middle East with knowledge of using wind power.

For many centuries, people used windmills to grind (磨碎) wheat into flour or get water from deep underground. When electricity was discovered in the late 1800s, people living in faraway areas began to use them to produce electricity. This allowed them to have electric lights and radio. However, by the 1940s when electricity was available to people in almost all areas of the United States, windmills were hardly used.

During the 1970s, people started becoming more cared about the pollution that is created when coal and gas are burned to produce electricity. People also realized that the supply of coal and gas would run out one day. Then, wind was rediscovered, though it means higher costs. Today, there is a global movement to supply more and more of our electricity through the use of wind.

1.What was a new use for wind power in the late 19th century?

A. Sailing a boat.

B. Producing electricity.

C. Grinding wheat into flour.

D. Pumping water from underground.

2.One of the reasons wind was rediscovered in the 1970s is that _________.

A. wind power is cleaner

B. it is one of the oldest power sources

C. it was cheaper to create energy from winds

D. the supply of coal and gas failed to meet needs

3.What would the author probably discuss in the paragraph that follows?

A. The advantage of wind power.

B. The design of wind power plants.

C. The movement to save energy.

D. The global trend towards producing wind power.

Before you accept a job offer, it’s important to really think about the offer. Here are some suggestions about the things you need to consider.

1.

Firstly, is the salary (薪水) listed on your contract and documents the same as you were offered? Secondly, are you happy with the amount? Do you think that the pay you’ll receive is fair for your skill sets and experience? Be sure to do a little market research to ensure you’re being paid a reasonable amount.

Will the location work for you?

No matter how good a role, there’s no point accepting a job offer that is too far from your home. If you’re already spending 40 hours a week at work, adding three hours a day commuting (来回上下班) is far from ideal. 2.

Is there any career development?

It’s all very good if the job you’ve been offered is exactly what you want at the moment, but what about the future? 3. We recommend asking your potential employer before  accepting.

Will you like the work culture?

As previously mentioned, you’ll most likely be spending 40 hours a week at this new job.4. Does the company promote a good work / life balance? Do they agree with your environmental / social values? Essentially, will this be a company that you enjoy working for?

How does the new job compare with your current one?

This is relatively simple. If the job you’re being offered doesn’t have as good a role, salary or satisfaction level as your current one, then why are you considering it at all?  5. Have a think about why you want to leave your current job before deciding on the next one.

A. Be realistic & consider whether or not the job’s location is going to work for you in the long run.

B. There’s a big difference between just doing your job and doing your job well.

C. Although change is good, sometimes it’s not always smart.

D. So it’s important that the company’s culture meets your values.

E. Is the salary reasonable?

F. It is very important that you understand exactly the duties in your new job.

G. Whether or not you have the opportunity to grow within a business is an important thing.

In the summer holiday following my eighteen birthday, I took driving lessons. I still remember how hard first day was. Before getting into the car, I thought I had learned the instructor’s orders, so once I started the car, my mind goes blank. I forgot what he had said to me altogether. The instructor kept repeating the word, “Speed up!” “Slow down!” “Turning left!” I was so much nervous that I could hardly tell which direction was left. A few minutes late, the instructor asked me to stop the car. It was a relief and I came to a suddenly stop just in the middle on the road.
