I first began experiencing worries and depression(沮丧)at the age of 14, after being bullied(欺凌)at school for years. While at first worries and depression would come and go, it finally became a part of my life. In order to solve the problem, I tried everything from when I was in college to graduate school: mood-changing medicine, special teas, things I read about in books, and advice given by doctors. Sadly, I didn't feel any better. But one afternoon, I saw an article in a magazine. It talked about how dogs were able to help people with worries and depression. The next day, I decided to get a dog – a corgi(柯基犬). When I brought my little corgi, Buddy, home, I didn't realize how much he would change my life. It didn't happen right away, however. Once the "puppy excitement" went away, my worries and depression came back as usual. One morning, I woke up with those familiar feelings again. I didn't want to get out of bed. I turned to pull the covers back over my head and give up. That's when I saw Buddy. Buddy started jumping all over me, licking(舔)my face, letting me know that it was time to go outside. It was as if he were saying, "There's no time to be sad, the world is amazing!" And for the first time in my life, on a day when my worries and depression were strong, I got out of bed. I put on my winter clothes and went for a walk in the snow with my new friend. I realized at that moment, walking down the street in winter, my life was changing. I really was a new person. This was my new beginning. It's been more than a year since that day, and I've never spent another morning unable to get out of bed. I've not cried myself to sleep or spent my days stuck with fear and sadness. Sure, I still have days when I feel sad or worried. But with Buddy by my side, I've finally learned how to manage these feelings. 1.According to the first two paragraphs, the writer ________ . A.liked to fight with others for years B.began to feel worried and depressed in college C.felt less worried after taking medicine D.tried many ways to fight against depression but failed 2.How did the writer know having a dog might help with her worries and depression? A.A doctor recommended it to her. B.She read it in an article by chance. C.She heard it from some other patients. D.She found it out by herself. 3.How does the writer feel in the last paragraph? A.Hopeful. B.Worried. C.Uncertain. D.Sad.

Smog is a big problem in many Chinese cities. But it seems that besides wearing a mask, few of us know what has caused the smog and what to do to beat it. Chai Jing, a former news interviewer with CCTV, discussed the questions in her documentary Under the Dome. The 103-minute film was on websites on Feb 28. In the film, Chai visits polluted places and talks to officials and scientists. She thinks that burning too much coal and oil are the main causes of PM2.5 and smog. To solve the problem, Chai suggests that we should clean our coal and oil or replace them with cleaner energy such as natural gas. In her film, Chai also emphasizes(强调) that everyone can do something to help control smog too. For example, we can live a greener life by using more public transport. Or if we see things that could harm the environment, we can try to stop it. In the film, when she sees a restaurant cooking without any suitable filter facilities (过滤设备), she calls the hotline 12369. The restaurant installed the filter a week later. Chen Jining, the new minister of environmental protection, praised Chai. “This film encourages ordinary people to take notice of the environment. This is what we need in the future.” 1.What is the main cause of smog according to Chai? A.Setting off too many fireworks. B.Burning too much coal and oil. C.Too many cars in big cities. D.Too many factories and companies. 2.Which of the following is NOT included in Chai’s suggestions towards reducing smog? A.Using cleaner energy. B.Cleaning coal and oil. C.Using public transport. D.Replacing coal with wind energy. 3.What can we tell from the story? A.Only factories produce heavy smog. B.Only the government can control smog. C.Smog can’t be controlled by ordinary people. D.Living a green life can help reduce smog. 4.What’s Chen Jining’s attitude towards Chai’s film? A.He didn’t watch it. B.He thought highly of it. C.He disagreed with it. D.He disliked it.

"Have some wine,"the March Hare said in an encouraging tone. Alice looked all round the table, but there was nothing on it but tea."I don't see any wine,"she said. 任务型阅读 Travel sets us thinking and makes us in discussions of major world problems. Traveling can improve our thinking skills. That’s WHY we travel. What follows is HOW we travel. CHEAP TRAVEL The less you spend, the closer you come to the reason you came. We’re savers by choice when traveling, although we could afford to stay in middle-priced hotels and eat in their restaurants if we cut back on the length of our trips. By spending less we can travel longer and travel better. We meet more locals by using buses rather than taxis and by staying in small family-run hotels and eating in local-style cafes. Spending too much money makes you away from the foreign experience you came to have. TRAVELERS — NOT TOURISTS What’s the difference? Travelers are more likely to get deeper into the life of a country than tourists. The way to do this is to do lots of pre-trip reading about the countries we will visit, and try to learn a few words of local languages. Independent travel is usually far less expensive than packaged tours. We don’t use travel agents because we don’t stay in hotels that charge high, and we can get cheaper tickets on the Internet. We like figuring out where to eat and working out how to get around. This puts us into direct contact with the local people. Independent travel isn’t as comfortable or convenient, but it’s the most meaningful way to travel. MOVING AROUND Despite its discomforts, we take public transportation whenever possible. Traveling in a car is easier, but also scarier. In much of the world roads are poor and driving behaviors are not fixed. Luckily, even the less developed countries often have good public transportation systems, riding buses and trains brings us into close contact with the local people. CARRYING STUFF(东西) Backpacks work better for long-term travel than the wheeled luggage(轮式行李箱) most middle-aged travelers use. Using luggage is fine with a car, but backpacks are easier for bus and train travel. Best of all, wearing backpacks bridge the gap between age groups — allowing gray-haired travelers like us to make friends with younger travelers.
