Younger students experience school bullying (欺凌) more frequently than older ones, and male students are bullied more than their female peers, a survey found. It also found that nearly half of the students had been intentionally hit or knocked down by classmates. About 6 percent said they are targeted by bullies on campus every day. The survey also found that students from ordinary schools experienced more bullying than peers from key institutions, and children from poor families are more likely to be bullied at school. Being bullied can have a negative impact on a child’s personal development and academic performance, according to Zhou Jinyan, a researcher who led the study at Beijing Normal University. 揅hildren being bullied will find it hard to trust others,? Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name — phubbers(低头族). Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities(身份) bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world. Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying. “the neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report. But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported. It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight. 1.For what purpose does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragragh2? A. To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing. B. To advertise the cartoon made by students. C. To indicate the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers. D. To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients. 2.Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have? A. His social skills could be affected. B. His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed. C. He will cause the destruction of the world. D. He might get separated from his friends and family. 3.Which of the following may be the author’s attitude towards phubbing? A. Supportive. B. Opposed. C. Optimistic. D. Objective. 4.What may the passage talk about next? A. Advice on how to use a cell phone. B. People addicted to phubbing. C. Measures to reduce the risks of phubbing. D. Consequences of phubbing.

When I came to Cincinnati as an au pair (家庭打工留学生), a lot of things there were different from what I knew. My host family lived in a huge house I could only describe as a "castle".In Germany I had lived in a small apartment together with my mom. Soon I found out that the "castle" was actually rather small in our neighborhood. Everybody there was very friendly and polite. They greeted you when they were walking by at least 3 feet away from you. They must not have seen a German au pair before, for most people I met asked me all kinds of questions about Germany. I enjoyed answering their various strange questions. I made a lot of friends and I started to hang out with them. Of course, there were a number of new things, and it took me the whole year to find them all out. I never got homesick. Perhaps it was because I did not have too many negative experiences and felt loved and welcomed there. However, I had undergone some painful experiences back in Germany. I was frustrated by the way people would run me over and not even say "Sorry." Taking up my studies at the TU-Dresden, I felt lonely. Everybody here seemed to be withdrawn(离群的) and I missed everything I had in Cincinnati. Germany was so "cold". I found it so much harder to make new friends. After six months I got a roommate and only two good friends. I also flew back to Cincinnati several times for long periods. I felt that without those visits I was not able to make it. Now I am over this German culture shock. It almost took me an entire year. I am still going back and forward between Dresden and Cincinnati four times a year. 1.When the author lived in Cincinnati, ________. A. she lived in a real castle B. some people were not very kind to her C. many people were curious about her motherland D. she lived in the biggest house in the neighborhood 2.In the opinion of the author, life in Cincinnati was________. A. wonderful B. hard C. painful D. strange 3.The underlined word "undergone" in Paragraph 4 probably means________ A. welcomed B. accepted C. expected D. suffered 4.What is the best title for this passage? 任务型阅读 Because six out of every 10 accidental deaths happen to Chinese children who are playing, Shanghai Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical (SJJP), a USbased pharmaceutical giant, is working on a Safe Kids Program to prevent injuries and deaths. Since the Safe Kids Worldwide was set up in 1987 by Johnson & Johnson in the US, it has contributed to a nearly 40 percent decline in the child death rate from accidental injuries there.Learning from the successful experience, SJJP began the Safe Kids Program in China in 1999. A recent survey conducted by SJJP and Safe Kids Worldwide China indicates that more than half of the responding parents didn't know how to help their children keep safe and that half of the parents didn't know about their children's motor skill development at different ages. The survey covered 3,359 Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou's parents with children between infancy (幼年) and 14. Additionally, more than 40 percent of the parents didn't know how to help their children to prepare well for sports activities. For instance, they don't know how to have their children warm up or realize the importance of a playgroundcheck before sports activities. To help correct the problems, SJJP and Safe Kids Worldwide China have been translating and editing safety education materials, sending them to parents free of charge, and delivering free lectures in kindergartens, schools and residential communities for the last 10 years. Currently, a special team has been set up and traveling around 12 key cities of China to popularize child sports safety knowledge and offer free training for young parents. Though SJJP refuses to say how much it has spent on the program, it says the number in terms of money, staff and technology, is large. SJJP was founded by Johnson & Johnson in 1995 and specializes in manufacturing and development of nonprescription medicines (非处方药) and health care foods and products. So far,its investment has exceeded $41 million. You may ride on your bicycle in a rush to get to school every morning. You may fight to get a bit of space on a bus or in the subway. You may also watch taxis crawl their way through traffic jams. No matter where you are, all big cities around the world have traffic jams these days. But although they all have their problems, many cities also have a type of transport that has become a cultural icon (文化标识). In London to avoid the traffic above ground, people use the “underground”,also called the “tube”. The city has the oldest and most complicated underground railway system in the world and is the pride of many Londoners. With 12 lines and 275 stations across the city, the tube, is normally the quickest and easiest way of getting around London. In London, you are never far from a tube station. New York is famous for its yellow cabs. They serve as a quick and easy way of getting across Manhattan, where the subway doesn't take you everywhere. Stopping a cab is easy; just stick out your arm like you do in any city. But,with over 12,000 yellow cabs in the Big Apple, they also cause traffic jams. Since 1873 when the first cable car started public service, the slow and noisy vehicle has been a symbol of San Francisco. Although once damaged by a serious earthquake and challenged (挑战) by cars, it is never caught in traffic jams and provides better views than the subway. But there are no such symbols in Los Angeles. If you visit you'd better rent a car. The city's public transportation is terrible. It can take hours to get across town by bus. The subway covers just a small part of the city center. The light rail line only runs between the Long Beach hotel area and the city center. That's why Angelenos love their private cars more than any other people in the world. 1.If you have a chance to London and want to avoid the traffic jams, you'd better ________. A. ride vehicle B. take a taxi C. use underground D. rent a car 2.People in Los Angeles like their private cars because of the following EXCEPT that ________. Here's a new warning from health experts:sitting is deadly. Scientists are increasingly warning that sitting for long periods, even if you exercise regularly, could be bad for your health. And it doesn't matter where the sitting takes place—in the office, at school, in the car or before a computer or TV. Just the overall number of hours it takes counts. Several studies suggest people who spend most of their days sitting are more likely to be fat, have a heart attack or even die. While health officials have issued (发布) guidelines advising on the least amounts of physical activity, they haven't suggested people try to limit how much time they spend in a seated position. “After four hours of sitting, the body starts to send harmful signals,” said EkblomBak of the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences. She explained that genes controlling the amount of glucose (葡萄糖) and fat in the body start to shut down. Even for people who exercise, spending long periods of time sitting at a desk is still harmful. Tim Armstrong, a physical activity expert at the World Health Organization, said people who exercise every day but still spend a lot of time sitting might get more benefits if that exercise were spread across the day, rather than in a single hour. Still in a study that tracked more than 17,000 Canadians for about a dozen years, researchers found people who sat more had a higher death risk, whether they exercised or not. Experts said more research is needed to figure out just how much sitting is dangerous, and what might be possible to offset those effects. “People should keep exercising because that has a lot of benefits,” EkblomBak said. “And when they're in the office, they should try to interrupt sitting as often as possible. ” 1.The underlined word “offset” in Paragraph 6 most probably means “________”. A. turn to B. work out C. get rid of D. make use of 2.Sitting too much is dangerous because it can ______. A. make a person unable to exercise enough in a day B. destroy the balance of glucose and fat the body C. increase glucose and fat in the body D. make a person become lazy 3.In the opinion of EkblomBak, when at work, you'd better have a rest by ________. A. sending your friends emails B. taking a walk around your office C. chatting online or playing computer games D. listening to music while sitting 4.Which of the following might be the best title for the passage? A. Side Effects of Sitting Too Much B. Don't Sit Too Much While Working C. More and More People Sit Too Much D. Sitting Too Much Could Be Dangerous
