We live in a world where new technologies and new methodologies (方法) are constantly being introduced. As humans,we are learning machines. We are most alive and functioning closest to our potential when we are learning, adapting, adjusting and finding new ways, approaches and techniques to improve our lives or the lives of others in some way. Learning does not finish when we leave school.Learning can become a way of life that helps us to achieve our greatest potential. We shall never stop learning,as there is always something new and interesting to discover. Lifelong learners never fail, because failure isn't in the vocabulary.Failure is just defined as “a failure to learn”. When a project does not go according to the plan, lifelong learners ask themselves “What can I learn from this?” and follow up with “How can I do this differently and achieve my outcome?”.They do not say,“I did not get to my goal,so I must be a failure.” There is a wonderful saying: “The only way to fail is to quit!” Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad,Poor Dad,said,“The only reason I am standing up here and you aren't is that I have failed more often than you have.” It is sad but true that our greatest lessons come from our greatest failures. The important thing is the lesson. There is no such thing as failure as long as there is a lesson to be learned. Learn something new every single day.Three very good reasons for becoming a lifelong learner include promoting your brain's health, giving your life a sense of purpose and promoting your financial security.Any one of these reasons should be enough, but all three combine to a powerful motivation to learn. 1.What's the main purpose of learning? A. To learn more knowledge. B. To live a better life. C. To be a learning machine. D. To be different from animals. 2.What is failure in the author's opinion? A. Failure is the career setback. B. Failure is the mother of success. C. Failure is losing the ability to learn. D. Failure is not achieving one's goal. 3.What conclusion can we draw from Robert Kiyosaki's word? A. Never give up when facing failure. B. Be confident that you can succeed. C. Climb up bravely where you fall. D. Work hard until you finally succeed. 4.What makes us a lifelong learner? A. A calm state of mind. B. A clear life goal. C. A strong athletic build. D. A stable income source.

About 97% of the world's water is salty and is found in our oceans and seas. But,as we can't drink sea water, how can it be important? Every part of our seas and oceans contains an amazing number of animals that live at different ocean depths. Most of the different species of animals and fish depend on simple plants for their food. These simple plants called algae(海藻)drift near the surface of the ocean and use sunlight to turn carbon dioxide and water into food and oxygen. In fact, algae produce over half of the oxygen people breathe. How important sea water is! Each plant or animal in our seas and oceans is an important link in a food chain. The algae are eaten in large amounts by microscopic(微小的) animals, which are in turn consumed by larger animals. These food chains are delicately balanced. The bad news about the food chains in the oceans is that they are under threat because of man,People once thought that the oceans were so big that it didn't matter if we dumped rubbish into them or caught huge quantities of fish and whales for food. But we now know this is not true and fish stocks in the oceans have started to drop. Thankfully, the world is taking steps to protect the future of our oceans by introducing international agreements to protect marine habitats (海域).Most countries have introduced fishing restrictions to protect fish stocks in the oceans and new techniques are being pioneered(提倡) to cope with pollution. Finally, the importance of protecting oceans is being made known to more people. This is just the beginning of a long process to protect the oceans for our future. We depend on the oceans for fish which are an important part of the human diet. How important sea water is! 1.Which of the following is the proper order of the food chain? A. small animals→algae→microscopic animals→large animals→man B. algae→microscopic animals→large animals→larger animals→man C. small animals→algae→large animals→microscopic animals→man D. microscopic animals→algae→large animals→larger animals→man 2.People used to think that the rubbish thrown into the sea____. A. wouldn't harm the fish in the sea B. would change the balance of the food chain C. would be broken down in the sea D. wouldn't do much harm to the sea 3.From the passage,we learn that____. A. most fish and sea animals live at the surface of the seas B. it is very difficult to break the balance of a food chain C. excessive fishing has caused the decrease in fish stocks D. it won't be long before the problems concerning oceans are solved 4.Which of the following is NOT a way being used to protect the oceans? A. The use of international agreements. B. Forbidding fishing to protect fish stocks. C. The use of new techniques. D. Raising people's awareness of protecting the oceans.

I hear many parents saying that their teenage children are rebellious(反叛的).I wish it were so.At your age you ought to be growing away from your parents. You should be learning to stand on your own two feet. But take a good took at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are all taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents.Instead of striking out bravely on their own, most of them are trying to seize at one another's hands for safety. They say they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow reason for thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that the crowd is doing it.They have come out of their cocoon(蚕茧)—into a larger cocoon. It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity wave and to go his or her own way.Industry has firmly opened up a teenage market. These days every teenager can learn from newspapers and TV what a teenager should have and be.And many of today's parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their children. All this adds up to great difficulty for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path. But the difficulty is worth getting over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don't care to share at once with your classmates.Well,go to it.Find yourself.Be yourself.Popularity will come—with the people who respect you for who you are. That's the only kind of popularity that really counts. 1.The writer's purpose in writing this passage is to tell____. A. readers how to be popular in the world B. teenagers how to learn to decide things for themselves C. parents how to control and guide their children D. people how to understand and respect each other 2.According to the writer, many teenagers think they are brave enough to act on their own, but,in fact, most of them____. A. dare not do things B. have much difficulty in understanding each other C. are not sure of themselves D. are very much afraid of getting lost 3.During the teenage years, one should learn to____. A. find one's real self B. become different from others in as many ways as possible C. get into the right reason and become popular D. rebel against parents

A. A body language. B. A special whistle. C. Its feeling. D. Its age. 2.Why do dolphins join others from different groups? A. To learn to “talk”. B. To meet their families. C. To play games. D. Here are some ways parents can use to encourage a healthy self-image in their children. Teach what real value is. I think kids sometimes are confused about values. How valuable you are is not measured by how pretty you are on the outside. 1. We were watching the Oscars and my 6-year-old son said, “She is so pretty,” and then quickly looked at me and said you are prettier, Mom.” And I said, “It’s okay. There are many people prettier than me on the outside. I know that’s not why you love me.” 2. Tell your kids about “the grass is always greener” syndrome. It is very easy for all of us to see the charm, whether it is in a famous singer or the most popular girl in the school. Do not think too highly of famous people. 3. Maybe they have the same struggles, like wanting acceptance from peers. 4. Don’t be afraid to have conversations with your child about how they’re feeling about ads songs, etc. You are the parent! 5. Take a stand and have confidence enough not to be followers and not to purchase clothing, music, or magazines that you don’t believe send the right message to your children! A. Use your mouth. B. Be patient with your kids. C. about what problems they might have. D. It is important to teach children this from an early age. E. Success is not measured by how famous you are, either. F. Girls tend to like famous singers while boys prefer sports stars. G In fact, kids of all ages want and need boundaries from you.

Grey clouds move as low as smoke over the treetops at Lolo Pass. The ground is white. The day is June 10.It has been snowing for the past four days in the Bitterroot Mountains. Wayne Fairchild is getting worried about our trek over the Lolo Trail-95 miles from Lolo Montana to Weippe in Idaho, across the roughest country in the West. Lewis and Clark were nearly defeated 200 years ago by snowstorms on the Lolo. Today Fairchild is nervously checking the weather reports. He has agreed to take me across the toughest, middle section of the trail. When Lewis climbed on top of Lemhi Pass,140 miles south of Missoula, on Aug.12,1805,he was astonished by what was in front of him; “high mountain chains still to the West of us with their tops partially covered with snow.” Nobody in what was then the US knew the Rocky Mountains existed, with peaks twice as high as anything in the Appalachians back East. Today their pathway through those mountains holds more attraction than any other ground over which they traveled, for its raw wilderness is an evidence to the character of two cultures: the explorers who braved its hardships and the Native Americans who prize and conserve the path as a sacred (神圣的)gift. It remains today the same condition as when Lewis and Clark walked it. The Lolo is passable only from July to mid-September. Our luck is holding with the weather, although the snow keeps getting deeper. As we climb to Indian Post Office, the highest point on the trail at 7,033 ft, we have covered 13 miles in soft snow, and we hardly have enough energy to make dinner. After a meal of chicken, I sit on a rock on top of the ridge (山脊).There is no light visible in any direction, not even another campfire. For four days we do not see another human being. We are occupied with the things that mix fear with joy. In our imagination we have finally caught up with Lewis and Clark. 1.We learn from the text that before 1805 . A. The Rocky Mountains were wholly covered with snow B. there were no people living in the western part of America C. no Americans knew of the existence of the Rocky Mountains D. the Appalachians were the western frontier of the United States 2.We learn from the text that the Lolo Pass . A. has changed a lot since 1805 B. is the meeting point of three cultures C. remains much the same as it was 200 years ago D. now attracts a large number of tourists to visit 3.Judging from the text, Lewis and Clark were most probably . A. two native Indians B. explorers of the early 19th century C. merchants who did business with the Indians D. travelers whose curiosity took them over the Lolo Pass 4.We can infer from the text that when crossing the Lolo Pass the author . A. was attempting the impossible B. was trying to set a world record C. was following the trail of Lewis and Clark D. was fighting with weather and taking unnecessary risks
