American English and British English are very different. Sometimes this difference is so big that the two seem like different languages!
Some words in British English mean things that are different in American English. For example a “raincoat” (American English) is called a “Mackintosh” in British English. But in America, a mackintosh is a kind of computer.
Most American sayings (谚语) mean nothing to the British. For example, Americans like to say, “Wake up and smell the coffee” which means “wake up and face reality（现实）”. But the British think it is silly-they do not drink coffee in the morning. Instead, most of them drink tea.
Of course, the two languages are the same in many ways. To “call” someone (American English) is to “ring” somebody in Britain. The two languages borrow from each other a lot. But for foreign students learning English, there can be many problems. After all, American English and British English have, over the years, become so different. Foreign students often learn British English, come to the USA, and cannot understand any American English! So you must ask yourself—where do I want to go in the future – America or England? If it is England, you should learn British English. But if you want to study in America, try learning as much true American English as possible. Watch American movies, listen to American songs, read books written in American English, and talk with an American accent (口音) — not a British one!

In some homes, the parents may make their children do their own _, cooking, and something like that. This is not because the parents are , it’s because they want to be sure their child is not too lazy.
In China, parents often show their love and care their children by trying to take care of all their problems. They think it is not to let their children walk on the road by themselves because there are so many cars and buses, so they take their children to school in the morning, and them back after school. They think by doing so their children will have a better life.

Although my thoughts were only on speed, the checkout line I was standing in wasn’t moving as quickly as I wanted, and I looked towards the cashier.
There stood a man in his seventies, wearing glasses and a nice smile. I thought, well, he’s an old guy!
For the next few minutes I watched him. He greeted every customer before scanning the items. Sure, his words were the usual, “How’s it going？” But he did something different—he listened to people carefully and then he would reply to what they had said
I thought it was strange. I has grown used to people asking me how I was doing simply out of conversational habit. I could say, “I just found out I have six months to live，” and someone would reply, “Have a great day！”
But that wasn't the end.
He gave them the change, walked around the counter (柜台), and hugged them with his right hand in an act of friendship. He looked at the customers in the eyes. “I want to thank you for shopping here today,” he told them. “You have a great day. Bye-bye.”
The smiling looks on the faces of the customers were priceless. All had been touched by his simple gesture—and in a place they never expected. They would gather their things and walk out, smiling.
Of course, he did the same to me and I got to know his name—Marty.
Who was that guy? It was as if Sam Walton (沃尔玛的创始人)had come back from the dead and invaded this old guy’s body.
I had never walked away from that shop feeling like that.
