Why are first ladies so important in the United States? They are unpaid and have no official work? There are several reasons, but the most important reason is they are role models for other women in the United States.

Jacqueline Kennedy was the best first lady in the US. Although she wasn’t an actress, model or singer, she was a fashion and cultural icon who charmed people wherever she went.

If you are looking for someone who is as charming as Jacqueline Kennedy, it will be hard to find anyone more suitable than Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping. If you were writing a novel and trying to describe the perfect mixture of personal history, confident lady for a character, you’d come up with someone like Peng.

Born into a family in Shandong province, she joined the People’s Liberation Army at the age of 18, doing pretty well in singing military(军旅) songs. But she is not only famous for her voice and great achievements, but also for her charity efforts. She has, among other things, worked as a member of World Health Organization to fight against AIDS, and has done much for 2008 Sichuan earthquake.

The media reported Peng’s trip with her husband. This was Xi’s first foreign trip as president and the first time that China’s first lady appears like a modern woman on Peng Liyuan’s first official state visit. The trip shows that she can be a role model for Chinese women, especially young Chinese women at home and abroad.

In the past, China has not had a tradition of first ladies like in the US. Now that China has a higher position on the world stage, it can have its first lady! And Peng Liyuan is the perfect person with whom to begin.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup will be the 20th World Cup, which is expected to take place between June 12 and July 13,2014 in Brazil. It will be the second time for the country to host the competition, the first being the 1950 FIFA World Cup. Brazil will become the fifth country to have hosted the Fifa World Cup twice, after Mexico, Italy, France and Germany.

Brazil is the greatest football nation in the world. There are 100 million Brazilians. How many of them are football fans? 100 million! All of them think that they know all about football. This makes life very difficult for the Brazilian team manager. When things go badly for the Brazilian team, the newspaper would demand (要求)that the team manager should leave his job. “If we win, they put me in heaven(天堂),”as a manager once said, “If we lose, they put me in hell(地狱).”

You can’t escape football in Brazil. There are football matches on every street and beach. On television, the results of the football matches come before the main news programs. There are six television Channels in Rio de Janeiro(里约日内卢). On Sundays each channel shows a different football match.

Brazil is not the richest country in the world, but the government spends much money on football. It cost more than one billion pounds to prepare for the 1950 World Cup. That’s 10 pounds for every Brazilian. And many Brazilians don’t earn as much as 10 pounds a week. Is it worth it?

“Brazil must have a great football team.” says one reporter. “If it costs one billion pounds, that’s all right. If the government doesn’t give a good football team, then it will become unpopular. Football is more than a game in Brazil.

There are some very good things about open education. This way of teaching allows the students to develop their interests in many subjects. Open education asks students to be strict with their own education. The open classroom may help them to enjoy learning. Some students will be happier in an open education school. They will not have to worry about grades or rules.

But many students may not do well in open education. They will not make good use of open education. Because open education is so different from traditional education, these students may have a problem of getting used to making so many choices. The last point about open education is that some teachers do not like it. They do not believe in open education.
