Positive and Negative Aspects of Sports

____________________________________________________________________________

Sports do us good in many aspects. It goes without saying that taking exercises can build up our physical strength. In team sports like basketball, volleyball or football, we will learn the importance of cooperation . Sports can also help us relax after a period of exhausting work. However, we may hurt other players or ourselves if we are not careful enough when participating in sports activities. What's more, excessive or severe training can do harm to our health. My participation in sports tells me that sports can make us healthy both physically and psychologically. It is also a good way for people to know each other and can promote friendship between people .So long as we are careful enough, sports can do us nothing but good.

[1] You can never get to peace and security without first knowing all of the good things in your life. So you need to learn how to appreciate your life and here are some simple steps you can take to achieve this goal.

Work hard to have an attitude of gratitude.

[2] As you learn to appreciate the small things in your life, you’ll find a sense of happiness. You’ll also find it easier to appreciate the big things in your life, which will help you appreciate your life as a whole.

[3] To begin with, find five things to be grateful for each day. Call this your “Gratitude List,” and write it down before bedtime. At first,      to find even just five things to be grateful for. That’s okay. You won’t learn how to appreciate your life over night, just like you didn’t become dissatisfied over night either. List small things, and go from there. The longer you keep a “Gratitude List,” the easier it will be to find things to put on it. Soon you’ll be able to list more things than you thought!

Learn to appreciate others.

[4] Take note when someone does something nice for you. If anyone does a job that’s normally yours, stop and thank them sincerely. Value the moment, and look for other opportunities to find the good in others. This will help you appreciate the people around you, who are also part of your life.

Appreciate yourself.

[5] This can be extremely hard, especially with all the criticism we hear from others. Appreciation also includes respect and you can’t appreciate or truly enjoy your life if you don’t respect yourself . So, think of one small thing you can appreciate about yourself every day, and take the time to really enjoy it. Be thankful for it, and know you’re learning how to really appreciate your life.

[6] It takes 30 fays of doing something before it becomes a habit. But after this, keeping a “Gratitude List,” appreciating others, and admiring yourself will become second nature to you. In no time, you’ll realize you know how to appreciate your life.

The Convention(公约)concerning the protection of world cultural and natural heritage appeared from a need to call for international cooperation to protect the world's natural and scenic areas and historic sites for present and the future generations.

In 1959 there was international concern over the flooding of the Abu Simbel temples, a treasure of ancient Egyptian civilization, to build the Aswan High Dam in Egypt. Through an international campaign by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) on the request of Egypt and Sudan, resources were found to move the temples to a new site. In 1965,a conference at the White House in Washington DC, USA called for a "World Heritage Trust" and international cooperation to protect "the world's superb natural and scenic areas and historic sites for the present and the future". In 1969, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) developed similar proposals for its members .Therefore, the Convention was adopted by the General Conference of UNESCO in 1972. The Convention identifies the natural or cultural sites on the World Heritage List, and sets out their role in protecting them .Although the emphasis has been on sites and natural features of "outstanding universal value", each country promises not only to conserve the World Heritage sites situated in its country, but also to protect and conserve its cultural and natural heritage.

Jaguar(美洲虎) was very rare. It was said that there less than 20 jaguars in the world, one of which was living in the national zoo of Peru. In order to help this jaguar, Peruvians set up a zoo for it, where there were sheep and deer for the jaguar to eat. However, strange enough, no one had ever seen the jaguar hunt the deer and sheep. What they could see was its lying in its cave, sleeping and eating the meat provided by the zoo keepers.

At first, people thought that the jaguar felt too lonely, so they found a female tiger to accompany it. However, it did not make too much sense. The jaguar just sometimes went out of its cave with its “girlfriend” for a while before it came back to its house again' It is normal for the jaguar to be lazy here. Tiger is the king of forest but you simply put some small animals around him. That is why the jaguar shows no interest in going out' a visitor said. So people put five wolves into the jaguar's zoo. Since then, the jaguar did not go back to its cave any more . It either stands on top of the hill yelling or runs up and down the hill without sleeping all day long .

Actually, one creature without any rivals is a lifeless creature. If a man lives without rivals, he is likely to be satisfied with the present and will not fight for the better. He will hold back before all difficulties . Hard environment tends to make successful people . Therefore, we need some rivals to push us to go ahead in all difficulties and competitions in our lives. 1.Why did Peruvians set up a zoo for the jaguar?

A.To protect this endangered animal.

B.To entertain people.

C.To satisfy people's curiosity.

D.To do some experiments.

2.That the jaguar always lying in its cave leaves people an impression that __________.

A.it must be treated badly

B.it must be seriously sick

C.it must miss the forest

D.it needs to be accompanied

3.What happened to the jaguar after it got five wolves around?

A.The jaguar remained the same.

B.The jaguar became very energetic.

C.The jaguar lost his girlfriend.

D.The jaguar got mad finally.

4.What does the underlined word "rivals" in the last paragraph probably mean?
