Have you ever wanted to try on clothes without going to the trouble of getting undressed? If you have, here’s the device for you: the virtual(虚拟的) fitting room.

The technology, designed by Russian company AR Door, was first tried out in May. When a customer walks into a “fitting” room, they’ll stand in front of a big screen that looks like a mirror. A camera in the mirror, using Microsoft Kinect, monitors a customer’s movement and projects a 3-D image of the clothes onto you while you stand before a screen.

The room also uses augmented reality technology. “Augmented reality allows the customers to choose an item of clothing without having to try it on physically,” the company told the Daily Mail. A customer can spin around to see all angles(角度) of the clothes, and can control the program by pushing virtual buttons.

AR Door is not the only company to be developing technology to help people with the way they look. Japanese company Shiseido recently presented its Magic Mirror, a virtual make-up mirror that allows people to get a full makeover in seconds.

However, the technology is not perfect. The clothes still seem to hang on the surface of the body, rather than look like the customer is actually wearing them. And people shopping for clothes are probably still better off actually trying them on.

In the end, you won’t know how something really looks and feels.

D. The customer looks like he/she is actually wearing the clothes while using this technology.

3.In the virtual fitting room, what is on the screen?

A. A computer      B. A fitting room

To me, the concept(概念) of home changes along with my age all the time.

In my childhood, home was a number of calls. It seems that I had more free time than today’s children. I didn’t have to show up in front of my parents right after school, instead I would go to play with my classmates who lived in the neighborhood. We played like mad until dinner was ready and our parents called “Come back! Come home for supper!” Days passed by as I grew up in the company of those calls which are still echoing(回响) in my ears even now.

In a short while, my childhood was gone. When a thin layer of hair(胡须) began to grow around the corners of my mouth, home became a place I tried to run away from.

As I read more and more, my world opened up, larger than before me. The bed I used to sleep in became too small, and words of care from my parents began to sound meaningless. How I wished I could have a space of my own someday! Later I was joined the army and put on the green uniform. During my service days, home was the series of letters I received one after another. My most homesick moments were when I read those letters from my family.

When I got a job, I began to get “hurt”, to rise and fall in a sea of people, and to understand that you can’t share all your pains with other people, even with your best friends. So again, another wave of homesickness came over me. When I was badly hurt, I imagined myself flying home on wings. Pushing open the door, I let tears flow down my face. At that moment I felt that as large as the world was, what I needed was only the familiar smell of home and the unchanged view outside the window of my old house…

……

Although I already have much life experience behind me, I know there is still a long way ahead and my concept of home will go on developing. But already I have come to see that home is where we can find the true meaning of all the busy rush life. What makes the concept different is that sometimes it refers to a person’s home and sometimes to the home of many, many people.

Teenager Jake Deham was skiing with his family in the USA when he fell over and lost one of his skis. His family didn’t know that he had a problem. They kept on skiing. When they got to the foot of the mountain, there was no sign of Jake.

Jake couldn’t find his ski anywhere. In the end, he decided to take off his other ski and walk down the mountain. But he couldn’t work out the right way to go.

At home, Jake watched a lot of programmes about living in difficult situations. He remembered the advice from these programmes and knew that he should build a hole in the snow. He made a hole and pointed it up the hill so the wind couldn’t blow into it. Outside his hole, the temperature fell to a dangerous-15℃ that night, but inside it Jake was safe from the cold.

But he had to get down the mountain. The TV programmes always said,“ If you are lost, you should find someone else’ s tracks(足迹) through the snow and follow them.” “I wanted to live my life.” remembers Jake.“So I got up and I found some ski tracks and I followed those.” He walked and walked and finally he saw lights. Nine hours after he lost his ski, he found a team of worker who came to save him. He was safe!

His mum was very happy when she heard the news. Amazingly, Jake didn’t even have to go to hospital. He got through the terrible experience without any injuries.
